My love for children together with my insatiable desire to learn and share this newly acquired knowledge with others helped me realize early enough that teaching and taking care of kids was my passion. This was the reason I selected Child Education and Liberal Arts for my undergraduate studies.
Being a student of one of the most prestigious universities in Greece, gave me the opportunity to become acquainted with several fields that I would have to deal with if I decided to be occupied with children. I found myself in the mesmerizing world of creative writing, theatre and teaching techniques and methods which would help me pass my knowledge to younger students and kids. As the courses progressed, I began to perceive the beauty of teaching, a science which is far more than passing knowledge, but also learning to interact with others, establishing concrete relations with children who crave personal attention, care, recognition in their long path of finding aside expertise and self definition.
I was raised in a way so as to respect other people, have confidence in my own abilities and a deep appreciation of others‟ thoughts and arguments. I strongly believe that these characteristics combined with my ability to speak 3 languages, my responsibility and eagerness to work helped me find a freelance after-graduate job as a childrens' book editor. This has been a valuable experience to me since I was given the opportunity to discover my love for books and cultivate my imagination and creativity.
My most recent employment as a Support Worker in a residential home at BREAK, a Norfolk charity organization supporting the development of vulnerable kids, has allowed me to acquire day-to-day, hands-on experience in working with children experiencing severe learning and emotional difficulties and demonstrating non-compliant behaviour. This experience has proved invaluable in allowing me to further develop my ability to manage my own emotions and maintain my self-composure, especially in situations in which young people are under severe psychological distress. It has also enabled me to deepen my knowledge concerning the needs of children with challenging lives.
I have also had the opportunity of working with children with special needs for some months in a Norwich-based charity (NANSA), an experience that made me more patient, responsible and taught me how to handle and get over difficult situations. Furthermore, I have the ability and experience to look after childrens' needs including preparing meals as I worked as a volunteer for some months in a child care centre. My duties also included organising activities, trips to the countryside and preparing children development projects.
Lastly, I enjoy learning new things from children and being outdoors, i have a lot of hobbies and i absolutely love good food and cooking.
I do not only feel affection and enjoy the company of children but also understand how important game and child care activities are. My experience has taught me that children need to be looked after properly at every stage in their daily routine. In fact, how we take care of them today decides how their tomorrow is going to be shaped!
