I am an 18 year-old student, currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. My main instrument is harp, although I play piano and sing. Although I'm studying to be a performer, I love working with young children in terms of music and education and have brief experience with family and volunteering at music groups and schools. Due to my hours in uni, I am available evenings and weekends, occasionally early mornings. I also drive which makes my life a lot easier. From my past experience working with young people, I feel like i am very patient and also know how to address them respectfully especially when they are older. I pride myself in being able to connect with them without belittling them, and this became evident to me when I worked in the schoolwear department of a local school wear shop. During my shifts, I would often find myself faced with stubborn children who felt disgruntled at the fact that they were spending their summer holidays being dragged around the shops looking for school uniform which made them even less likely to want to co-operate with me. I then found myself finding ways to coax them out of their moods as, more often than not, the parents themselves were even at their wits end. As I am very musical and involved in a lot of musical organisations involving young people, I know a lot of interactive clapping games and songs that are usually welcomed quite well by all ages, I am also comfortable teaching musical instruments and music theory. Aside from musical activities, I also feel able to help children with their homework as at high school I was both Head Girl and Dux of my year.
