I am a psychology student currently living and studying in Canterbury.
I understand that being a male, it might come across as not the norm to be looking for work in babysitting or part-time childcare. However, as the eldest of five children I believe my experience in helping care for them is something I can use beneficially to earn money. At present my siblings are aged 18, 15, 9, and 4; therefore I have experience with children of various ages.
I have also had experience working with primary school age children as a part of work experience, and I have spent some time working with secondary school age children. I enjoyed working with children and helping with schoolwork. I even undertook a year working with an educational psychology service. This involved going into schools and engaging with children, which was the most rewarding part of the job.
I am hard-working and enjoy completing tasks set, but I am also fun and creative and love working or playing imaginatively with children. I am often the one my 4 year old sister comes to when she wants to pretend play.
Occasional babysitting | $9.00 per hour |
Partial / after-school care | $7.00 per hour |
I believe babysitting is a highly responsible job and the pay should reflect this.
Part-time care should be less as it is part-time, but I believe it should still be above the minimum wage.
