So, hello! I'm Rachel :-)
I like to say I'm very easy going and approachable. I'm a little chatter box and often get told to be quiet!
I've been working with children with learning disabilities for 4/5 years on a relief and permanent basis. I have worked out in the community and within a respite and residential unit. Whilst working out in the community, this involved me supporting children with a learning disability or additional needs, but also providing emotional support to their parents and siblings on a regular basis. I formed very good working relationships with the families I supported, and even now, still keep in touch with them after I got a new job.
Whilst working in the respite and residential unit, again, this involved supporting children (3-18 ) with additional needs and learning disabilities. Whilst aiming for the child to be as independent as possible according to their level of development, the job also involved lots of fun activities to get the child to engage and be involved with mainstream activities such as baking, arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor activities and many more.
I graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) Applied Social Sciences degree. I tailored my degree to cover subjects which supported me in my employment and covered modules such as developmental psychology, social psychology, children, youth & society, and counselling.
I'm currently working supporting individuals through Self Directed Support (SDS) but have plenty extra time to provide help and support to other families.
Rachel :-)
