Hello!
My Name is Katherine, I am 24 years old and just completed my Masters degree in Education and International Development at UCL in London. I have a great deal of experience working with children from all different backgrounds, abilities, languages and countries/cultures. I love to learn about new places and people so try to travel and explore as much as possible. I have always had extremely positive experiences with au pairing/ nannying and would love to continue my work. I am still in contact with many of the families I have stayed with and think it is a fantastic opportunity for both the children and myself.
I have been working with children periodically for the last five years. After finshing school at 18 I moved to Beijing to work as an au pair for a chinese family for nine months. I then moved to Toluca in Mexico to work as an English teching assistant for three months. I returned to the UK to start my undergraduate degree in Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies at Cardiff University. During which I also worked part time in a nursery and as a carer for an autistic girl.
After finishing my undergraduate degree. I spent the summer working as an au pair in Italy before moving to london to start my Masters degree. I studied my Masters in Education and International Development at UCL while also working as a part time nanny in london.
When working with children I think it is incredibly important to respect another's family but also learn from each other. I found this particluarly important when working in China due to the significant cultural difference but au pairing in China truly was the most amazing experience! From this I learnt so much about how to communicate and express yourself through a language barrier, also how to invent games, activites and new learning methods when teaching english. I think it is extremely important to make learning fun and innovative even through simple tasks. When I look after children I try to keep them as busy as possible with baking, arts & crafts (which i love!), days out to park, beach, zoo etc and arrange outtings with other children and if possible other au pairs. I understand that some children now are frequently spending a lot of time on computers/ TVs but the family I currently work with and previous families have only allowed these devices on weekends so I am always ready with alternative ideas and activities to keep the kids busy.
Since finishing my Masters in September I have been travelling and job hunting for the future, but inbetween so I am looking for part-time/ flexible work. I am aiming to start fulltime employment in January so hoping I can nanny/ babysit until then. I have always loved working and spending time with children so I try to surround myself in their fun-filled happy environment! I would love to have a few months of this before returning to london and back to reality!
I can provide my full CV if needed and references from previous au pair or nannying families
