Samantha, childcare - PO5 Portsmouth

Hi all.

I am an experienced child minder having volunteered for around three years at my local 1st Rainbows group, worked as a Christmas Elf in the Grafton (Cambridge's shopping centre) Grotto and been a child minder for a few families. However I am NOT OFSTED registered. I will also be living in university accommodation so I cannot mind children there. It will have to be in their own homes.

I am studying at the University of Portsmouth for a BA (Hons) in Childhood and Youth Studies and I have just finished at BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care at a Cambridge Sixth Form College at D*D*D*

I am 18 years old, I hold a valid and clean drivers license (though I will not have my car with me at University) and do not smoke. I love animals so I'm happy to take care of them if need be and to do overnight requirements. I have been DBS checked for various other companies that I have worked for - the most recent one came through on the 9/5/2016. I will admit that my cooking skills are rather lax - though I hope that will improve whilst being at university!

My main goal in life however is to make a difference, change someone’s life for the better especially for children since I’m a big believe in childhood being a sacred time and that no child should find this time traumatising. I’ve wanted to protect and help children even when I was a child myself – having had two younger girls who used to follow me around and run to me whenever they were upset.

My interests are mainly related to literature. I am a big reader and even enjoy writing stories. Having said that though I greatly enjoy musicals as well.

I am patient and enthusiastic. My friends describe me as trustworthy, warm and approachable making me a welcoming individual. They also say that I’m a just and loyal person, kind but protective of them, and am a person they can always come to for support when they need it. I also love interacting with new people.

Generally I charge about £6 an hour but I am happy to negotiate this a little if required. The £6p/h is for one child and £2p/h more for any additional children. I can also do overnight stays for £40.
