I am a level 3 Nursery Practitioner and I have been at my current setting for over four years.
I have my own room and I have two people working under me. Between us we have 14 children aged 2.5 to 3 and 9 of these are my key children. It is up to me to make sure our work is all up to date and the children's observations and relevant paperwork is up to standard.
I make sure the children's needs are met every day and I do the planning for them for the weeks ahead and make sure each day they do something different from the day before.
If there is a particular time of year where I feel we should be doing an activity or having a discussion during circle time then I plan on paper what we will all do together and how we will do it and what resources we will also use.
For example at the moment I am teaching them about road safety. I have a poem they are learning which will help them to remember how to cross the road safely and they are also learning the basics such as traffic light colours and what they mean. I am also using books and story's to highlight the dangers.
Next month we will be doing Halloween, November will be Bonfire Night and of course December will be Christmas and this continues throughout each month with at least one adult led activity/ group activity.
Each time I make sure the children's efforts are displayed on a board and encourage them to show their parents when they enter the classroom to help them gain a sense of achievement.
I interact with the parents every morning and always make sure that if they have any queries or questions that I can answer them as best I can and if I cant I make sure they are directed to our manager.
I have also acted as both manager and deputy manager whilst they have been on holiday. My duties included showing new parents around the nursery, keeping a record of payments, making sure the staff were all happy and any problems were resolved, giving all of the parents for every child within the setting any advice they may have needed, booking in extra days for their children or changing days and of course making sure the children were safe and there needs were being met to the correct standard.

I love working with the children where I am and have been with some of them from the beginning of their nursery journeys at six months old right through to their transitions into school...something which gives a great sense of achievement. I feel however it is time I experienced working within another setting and to hopefully bring fresh ideas and to also learn the different ways settings are ran.
