Although my working history has been mainly in the NHS, I have 20+ years experience in caring for children, both on a one to one basis and also in a small group.
I first helped to care for children when I was in my last year at junior school, where as part of the curriculum, during break time and also in place of some lessons, I would help supervise the nursery children. During this time, I would help with activities, read stories and help with toilet duties.
My one to one experience in caring for children began when I was at senior school and I cared for the daughter of a teacher from my junior school for 3 hours every Monday evening. During this time, I would help her with her spellings, listen to her read, play games with her and read her a story at bedtime.
During my working time at Barking Hospital, I looked after the Son of a work colleague during the summer holidays, and would take him on day trips to London, to the park and also on nature trails in the forest.
A few years later I also helped to care for a small group of children aged between 3 & 5 in the Sunday school at my church, where as a group we would sing, read from the Children's Bible and do activities based on the story. I would also help them when they needed the toilet and would also pacify them when they were upset because of their parent leaving them.
I also looked after my Nephews, Neice and God Daughter when they were much younger, taking them on days out and also doing rainy day activities with them.
Although I have the ability to care for a child of any age, I would prefer children in the 3-5 age bracket and would like to care for them in their own environment.
