Kiera, occasional childcare in Edinburgh EH11

My name is Kiera and I am currently in my first year of studying International Festival and Events Management at Napier University.

I am looking for some part time babysitting.

I have just recently returned from a long term placement in South Africa with Project Trust. Whilst overseas I volunteered in a Primary School for 3 months and a children's home near Cape Town for 8 months. I have the ability to take on a high level of responsibility and work effectively with little supervision.

My roles within the Primary School were -
Waking school boarders and making sure they were ready for school.
Assisting within the everyday running of the preprimary school.
Providing a group of Grade 5's with extra maths support.
Listening to Grade 3-7 reading groups.
Helping with the Grade 1 art lessons.
Looking after a 6 year old after school.
Helping the children complete their homework.
Holding after school activites for an age range of 6-14 year olds.
Putting the school boarders to bed in the evening.

My roles within the Children's Home were -
Working alongside qualified child care workers to ensure the house ran smoothly.
Looking after the children on nightshift.
Waking and putting the children to bed.
Making up daily meals.
Getting the children dressed and ready for school.
Helping with homework.
Providing care and love for the children.

Skills -
Great patience and the ability to work with different age groups, I worked with 18 months to 19 year olds in the Children's Home.

An ability to adapt to any situation and use my initiative.

Strong friendly communication and teamwork skills from working with a diverse group of people.

Working within the children's home involved being informed of health details and family histories of the children giving me a great understanding of confidentiality.

Developing relationships with the children and understanding their individual stories enhanced my empathy skills.

Hardworking, energetic and dedicated, I worked 12 hour nightshifts at the Children's Home.

Helping the children with their homework and teaching them to write their names, numbers and letters showed my encouragement.
