Presentation

I am a 30 year old, currently working as a Senior Staff Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. I have been in this role for five years now. During this time I have developed my skills, knowledge and experience in paediatric nursing and have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of a fantastic team of staff. I have attended many courses including Makaton/basic sign language, interview skills and advanced life support. I have also achieved a Mentorship qualification in order to be able to teach students and junior staff. I work on a pre operative ward that patients aged 0-18years come to with their families before having surgery. I take charge of the ward, attend meetings, delegate jobs, chase up Doctors to clerk and consent, co ordinate the ward and ensure everything is running smoothly. Patients are admitted, observations are taken, they are seen by various members of the multi disciplinary team, paperwork is completed and then they are taken to theatre. Patients and their families are often extremely anxious at this stage and it is my job to deliver family centred care and make their journey through hospital a positive experience. I also work on a post op day ward which involves caring for patients after their procedures. We deliver a high standard of care and make sure that the children are comfortable and recover in a safe environment. The children are our priority. I feel that effective communication is key and keeping the patients informed of what is happening is extremely important. I feel that I am very supportive, I stay calm in emergency situations and I am able to prioritise.
Prior to this role, I worked at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury. I worked as a staff nurse on a busy general children's ward for two years gaining experience and confidence having newly qualified. I am registered with the nursing and midwifery council and am a member of the royal college of nursing.
As a student I was fortunate in that I was able to spend time in many different departments. I had placements in health visiting, children's community nursing, neonatal nursing, special care baby unit, children's inpatient ward, children's day surgery unit, children's out patient, special needs school, children's accident and emergency department, children's mental health and with paramedics.

I have worked with children since I was 15 years old when I started babysitting for neighbours and family friends. I love working and being with children, I find it interesting, challenging, varied and rewarding. I have a genuine love of children and their various needs, I find that I can develop my potential, achieve growth on both an individual and professional basis, and achieve both personal and job satisfaction. I have a good awareness and respect of different cultures and diversity. I have several years experience working as a nanny which I still occasionally do over holidays and weekends. I have travelled and skied with these families. I have also had voluntary work experience in a pre school and a nursery.

I enjoy the responsibilities of looking after children and studied Health and Social Care achieving a double A level in the subject and I have 10 GCSE's. I then went on to university to get my qualification in children's nursing.
I am first aid trained and hold a valid CRB. I also have a full clean UK drivers license. I really enjoy travelling and exploring other cultures, keeping active, fit and healthy.
I feel that the qualities I have to offer is that I am caring and compassionate. I am self motivated and can think independently. I am polite and friendly in manner, respectful, reliable and punctual, flexible, capable, honest and trust worthy. I feel that my strengths lie in having a balanced and mature attitude, patience, self control, common sense and tact. I have a good sense of humour and I have a lot of energy, am active and observant. I have good communication skills and can communicate effectively. I have the ability to work independently, having good planning and organisation skills. I have a willingness to learn and to adapt to people's individual needs and requirements and I respect this with my loyalty and awareness of confidentiality.
When I am not working I have regular Zumba and archery lessons and I am currently training to do the great south run and several other local runs for charity. I am very sociable and spend a lot of time with friends and family. I particularly love to visit other countries and am learning Spanish.
