I currently volunteer at Douglas Sports Centre and have done so for the last four years. Once a week I help assist teaching children with learning difficulties play sports. I am involved in planning the activities as part of a team and I help set up the equipment. At the start of each session, I ask the children how their week has been, and then I will remind them of the health and safety rules. We then move on to an activity to increase the heart rate. My job as a facilitator is to motivate the children and encourage them to work to the best of their abilities. The skills I have developed have helped me communicate with people, as the children need to understand the instructions I am giving to them. When the children find activities challenging, I help them to find different solutions to overcome their difficulties. I have excellent listening skills and the ability to help people with problem solving. My voluntary work has giving me a great understanding of commitment and responsibility. My dedication to this has resulted in building good relationships with the children and helping them achieve a range of physical and emotional skills to the benefit of their well-being.
